A sport-commercial proof of concept built on zero budget and one day.
Your bread and butter is the thing you can do without thinking about it. The shot you have taken ten thousand times, in an empty gym, with nobody watching. The film is about earning that, and basketball carried it because basketball is where repetition shows. You can watch someone get better at the same motion.
The part nobody films is the part the film is about.
One day. Bay Area. No rentals, no crew, no budget. Everything on screen was shot on equipment we already owned, which was the brief we set ourselves: if the concept could not carry a day with nothing behind it, it was not a strong enough concept.
Jasmin Guinn wrote it, and we co-directed. I shot it and shaped how it plays.
Working without a lighting package means nothing waits on a setup. You take what the room is giving you and you keep moving, which pushed the shooting closer to how you would cover a real game than how you would cover a board.
The black and white frames below were shot on set the same day.
