My dad played trumpet at Grambling State. That is where my parents met, and where most of the older half of my family went to school. It left a mark on me early: what those bands mean, what Black history in music means, why that culture is worth pointing a camera at.

My taste comes from music. Records, music videos, the way that world looks and moves. It is the reason I shoot the way I shoot.

This came up as a side project at the agency I was with, off a brief for Cricket Wireless. The want was to catch the band the way it actually feels from the field, through the drum major and his mace. Black and white, and deliberately gritty. Shot, edited and colored myself.
